Saltzman Testimonials

I wore the Saltzman SS Jersey during the 2017 Trans Am, a 4300 mile race from Astoria, OR to Yorktown, VA, as well as a winter ride from NYC to Las Vegas in 2018, and I cannot say enough about how badass it is. It’s the perfect adventure Jersey. The cut is clean and they look phenomenal in the wild. It feels good on the skin even after multiple long, sweaty days, and is a great layer no matter the weather. It’s really something to be stoked to wear!

When the goal is to ride your bike across a continent as fast as possible while carrying everything you need, the things you carry need to be highly functional in a wide range of circumstances. The Saltzman Jersey is exceptional in this regard. The fabric blend combines the thermal (and odor) benefits of wool with the durability and moisture transfer of synthetic fibers to create a jersey that is as comfortable crossing the Australian Outback during summer as it is spending a week outrunning a cold front at more than a mile above sea level, riding south down the Rocky Mountains in Wyoming and Colorado. With thoughtful features like a zippered pocket for your keys and a reflective piping on the back to aid in nighttime visibility, the jersey does exactly what it needs to do: fade from consciousness and allow you to focus on what matters, which is the ride at hand.

The one jersey quiver.
In planning for the Great Divide Mountain Bike Route I knew I would need to pack a lot more minimal than I did for the Trans Am I did 9 years ago. With less storage space for this trip and the knowledge I gained during my other tour, which I started with too much gear, I decided to use just one jersey. Over the years as a cyclist I have discovered the wonders of wool and its amazing ability to always be comfortable in pretty much any condition, as well as never develop a stink after a long day in the saddle. I have a few wool jerseys but none of them struck me as one that would work riding in the hugely variable conditions I would encounter on the divide. Be it too thick or too thin, or just not durable enough, none seemed up to the task. That’s when I discovered the Saltzman jersey. I tested it on a few long rides before heading out, including a big off-road out-and-back to the Oregon coast. The wool blend seemed to be the perfect weight for hot and cold weather and the fit was still comfortable at the end of the day. The only unknown was if it would hold up to the daily abuse of riding 2600 miles along the continental divide.
I finished the trip in 30 days averaging 93 miles a day, with some really big 140 and 150 mile days towards the end. From 32° and raining to 104° and blowing, and everything in between, the jersey was warm when it needed to be, cool and moisture wicking in the heat, and on top of it all always comfortable. I only washed it a few times but it never smelled, and it stood up to the constant abuse of stuffing it, sometimes over stuffing, with all sorts of things in the pockets. At the end of the trip it hardly looked worn. Now, when I head out for a ride, be it for an hour, or 12 hours, I always reach for the Saltzman, it truly is a one jersey quiver
